Sounds like you don't have your permissions set up right in XP. Not sure what the differences would be between XP-home & XP-Pro (which is what I use) but try this...
R-Clk My Computer; L-Clk Manage; Under Storage, L-Clk on Removeable Storage; L-Clk on "Your CD-R/W"; Then R-Clk to bring up the menu; L-Clk on Properties. Choose the Security Tab.
You should see two windows in one, the top section is Groups & Users, the bottom section is permissions. As you select each name in the top section, check all three "allow" boxes for each, do this for all of the group/users names.
L-Clk OK; X Out; then reboot.
That should do it.
