Well mine is rather load so it may have a fan, I still have the box, could I check this? this drive has proved in the past to perform better at 24X, any lower didn't improve results & I have been testing it with a DAE quality test CD & it can't even complete the test @ 4x, 8x (just stalls) so this once again seems to show that this drive best performs at 24x.
