I am experiencing the problem where pressing ALT-G does to get the data base info results in a "Server Error". That is unless I delete the track information as described in the quoted message. I hope this helps track down the problem. |

Different servers
I tried a few different servers, and most gave the same results - garbled status message after a long delay. However, http://es.freedb.org:80/~cddb/cddb.cgi worked, and still seems to be working a couple of discs later.
I don't know why the other servers are giving me trouble, since they seem to be working fine for other people. Strange

Me too!
I've also been having freedb problems, though they only seem to have started recently. Haven't changed any computer settings, and no firewall on musicmatch.
Like the last poster, I've had good luck using the server at es.freedb.org, but all the others fail. Iterestingly, if I use Audiograbber (yuck!), the freedb queries work fine every time! |

fast fix
Until this is resolved what I'm doing is using Feurio to download from freedb & then exporting to windows cd player database which EAC can read.
I also get HTTP 1.0 503 Service Unavailable, I tried EAC prebeta11 same deal, If it's any help, I use dial up conection, win2000pro

if would be nice if they configued it to use the cddbp protocol instead of HTTP. http is simply awful the way they've implemented it (not EAC, freedb/cddb).
anyone know how to get EAC to use cddbp instead of http????? |

I think it's more freedb's side
I got this from plextools:

Another vote for es.freedb.org
Been having the same problems as everyone else here. No firewall installed. I just switched to es.freedb.org and now everything's working.

I'm not sure how you could pin (all) the blame on freedb. I still occasionally -- when
freedb's db sucks -- use cddb. And I find I must go through the exact same steps (to add the site blocked by ZA3pro as a 'trusted' zone) for it to work every time for me. |

workaround
It seems if I press shift-del [ok] alt-g enough times it finally works as suggested above.
acceptable workaround for now. |

FreeDB wont connect through EAC, but will if I use FreeRIP Mp3
On all 3 of the Win2000 machines in my office, EAC won't connect to FreeDB, but they will if I use FreeRIP MP3. On the Win89 machine EAC connects just fine.
I have found that once the data is obtained using FreeRIP then it will show up in EAC, but EAC still hasn't connnected to FreeDB. This leads me to think it is a EAC issue not a firewall prob. |

ZAPro fix works for ZA as well
FWIW, the listed ZoneAlarmPro fix does work for ZoneAlarm, although it is not as easy to implement.
In the Security tab, select Advanced, then Add ... Host/Site; enter the IP of your chosen FreeDB server and hit OK. Before adding this, I either had to disable ZA per Andre's suggestion, or turn overall ZA security down to medium (someone else suggested this). Down side is that, if I want to change CDDB servers, I'll have to change that zone... I would tend to wonder why EAC has this issue when it is just opening a port-80 request to the site (even the ZA alert says so). Andre: are there any particular flags you're using with the open call for this? |

I took it out, because HTML is now the standard query... CDDB is now only for compatibility reasons in the freedb....
For connect I just do this : sin_port:=htons(80); sin_family:=AF_INET; sin_addr.S_addr:=inet_addr(srv); IF sin_addr.S_addr=INADDR_NONE THEN hse:=gethostbyname(srv); IF (hse^.h_addr_list#NIL) AND (hse^.h_addr_list^[0]#NIL) THEN pul:=hse^.h_addr_list^[0]; sin_addr.S_addr:=pul^; END; END; connect(osocket,CAST(SOCKADDR,adrserv),SIZE(adrserv)); (Sorry, formatting will get lost) cu, Andre |
