Same Here

I am also running W2K Pro with Norton 2002 (disabled) and I get the same problem. Can't connect or HTTP error or service unavailable. It's most frustrating!

Me too. I'm running W98 w/out a firewall and it fails to get disc information- the status bar just goes garbled after about a minute. When I try to update the server list I get a HTTP error.

Talking Fix for my FreeDB problems

I've been having problems with EAC getting info from FreeDB. Most of the time I just got garbage in the status field when doing a FreeDB lookup and the track info would not update.

I tried turning off my firewall (NIS), that did not help. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, that did not help. But I noticed that most of my settings had remained persistent through the process so I looked in the registry. I found the settings area for EAC and erased it. Then I reinstalled EAC and the FreeDB lookup worked. Hope this helps you.

Below are my notes on how to erase the settings yourself. The instructions are for Windows XPpro.

You should probably backup the registry or set a system restore point before you do this!!!

If you have a lot of EAC custom settings that you don't want to reset, you may not want to do this. EAC staff must have left these settings there for a reason during the upgrade.

1) Uninstall EAC.

2) (start|run|regedit|OK|Alt-Page Up|Ctrl-f|ASsoftware|Find Next)

3) I erased the whole tree because I don't have any other ASsoftware that I know of. You can browse down to the EAC folder and just erase that.

4) Close RegEdit and reinstall EAC v0.9vb4 and see if it worked for you.

Tip of the hat to the EAC team. I've used this product for a year or so and have found it to be a great product. Because of some of the MP3's if have heard, I wish more people used the EAC/LAME combo.

I just noticed that while in RegEdit, you may have to search (F3) several times to find all the places that the EAC settings are strored.

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request

Great...

Win2K, no servers work - some give Server Error, some give HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request. Other programs work fine.. No firewalls, shift-del does nothing.

Fantastic.

I was just informed that CDDB shut down its CDDB1 servers. So the only possibility would be CDDB2. But this I will not add because of two reasons :
1) It would cost me quite some money (and annual fee)
2) It comes as ActiveX component where I don't know what it does, how it does, etc...

I have installed EAC on my laptop and my desktop. On my laptop I'm running win2000 and I've had no problems using freedb but on my desktop running winXP it doesn't work. Pressing shift+del and alt+G helps however.

THANK YOU for that tip. That was exactly what I needed to fix my problem...

I've tried all the fixes previously mentioned in this thread. Most would work for a session or two, but invariably there would be problems again. It's EXTREMELY frustrating that something so seemingly minor, namely the retrieval of text from freedb, could cause so many problems. Exact Audio Copy is the ONLY program I use that has problems like this. Winamp, Real One Player, Quicktime, Axialis CD-Player, Plextor Audio Capture 2000 -- None of them have these problems.

Andre, in all other ways I LOVE your program. But please throw out the existing code for the freedb querries and rewrite it.

FreeDB can't connect

I had the same problem with EAC/Win2k but have found a foolproof way around it - although it requires a couple extra clicks.

My burner came with MusicMatchJunkBox. I open that, it (for some reason) reads the db perfectly every time. Once it has read it EAC can read the results in the ini and does so. (MMJB is adware if you didn't get it with your burner) You then close MMJB and proceed with EAC as normal.

I posted this tip in absm some time ago and many people found it worked for them too. Best of luck folks, we're all in this together.

I have just started having these problems yesterday.. It is really a pain... But the program is free and with that comes the expectation that its not gonne be 100% all the time.

What is a simple way to get around this problem? IS the shift-delete thing really the best way to go? Changing the server it is trying to access??

Why is this happening NOW all of a sudden, what changed??
