What if the error message window had a little "details" button where the cause of the error was reported? That could help us sort firewall error from freeedb error and so on.

It could say "Not in DNS" or "CGI timeout" or "HTTP 500 internal error" or whatever. Could help us track down the problem.

Cu

P.S.: Danke Andre fuer Deine Arbeit

Cool

I've just downloaded EAC and was getting the HTTP 500 error message with every CD. Tried all suggested remedies, no change.

What worked for me was entering my ISP's proxy server settings in the Freedb options tab. I don't need to use the proxy server for anything else but it looks like I do with EAC.

Works every time now.

Unhappy

It's just bad that I'm experiencing this issue only with EAC. CDex will retrieve every CDs from CDDB/Freedb 100% of the time... With EAC, I have to hit the ALT-G several times, and after 10-15 tries it will communicate with the server... I tried several time with different server...

Too bad..;( Let's hope it will get better!

Now won't work at all!

The FreeDB connection used to work for me... if I killed ZoneAlarm. Now, even after shutting down ZoneAlarm, it doesn't work. Veyr frustrating. All I get is server errors, regardless of which server I choose. I've updated the server list several times, no change.

Replace freedb with cddb in the freedb / Database Options and everything works fine (for me):

http://cddb.cddb.org:80/~cddb/cddb.cgi

Don't forget to insert a valid email address too...

Lightbulb Another trick that works for me...

Switch off the automatic connect, and when you connect manually, choose the batch file option. It will rapidly make a bunch of attempts and usually one will succeed.

Well I am now experiencing the same problem with the freedb. I was working yesterday. I upgraded to media player 9 (windows) on a windows 2000 machine and now my lookup doesn't work. Any clues. No firewall problems and all other programs that use database lookups work (ie creator, media player) Has the windows media format been corupted or some other incidious microsoft feature been implemented?
