The Solution!
For a while I was using the CDDB database, also, since I could not reliably connect to the freedb servers. But it appears that cddb no longer works. I think that they have finally switched to cddb2 exclusively. I struggled with us.freedb.org again, using the repeated SHIFT-DEL , ALT-G voodoo (or whatever it was) and could get a tune list sometimes. Really frustrating. Then, one Sunday morning, it would not work at all. So I hooked up my dail-up modem so I could watch the lights (you know, a poor man's packet sniffer). No traffic was coming back from us.freedb.org, and EAC was timing out. I never saw EAC send a second packet if the first one got dropped on the floor. It would give up right away. So, I switched to http://de.freedb.org:80/~cddb/cddb.cgi, and everything worked fine, every time! It hasn't failed yet! This explains why some of us are having such problems, and others are not. If you are using a server that is somewhat slow, then EAC times out quickly. Since Andre Wiethoff is not seeing any problems, I guessed that de.freedb.org is not heavily loaded. That seems to be a correct guess. Now if all of us who have had problems jump over to de.freedb.org, then Andre might be able to see the problem, too. Now, no offense intended, Andre. You have written a wonderful and extremely useful program, and I use it a lot. The freedb connection has been the only problem I have ever had with it, and I am glad to have found (I think!) the reason for the problem. |

That is strange.
Every time I use my dial-up-modem, the connection works great, but if I switch to my normal LAN connection, it shows 'HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found'. For some time the SHIFT-DEL + ALT-G combination worked, but not anymore. |

MBP you are correct!
I've been having difficulties for some time now and have tried everything. The only thing that works for me is to switch to the German freedb site. Thanks for the tip! Rich |

This usually makes CDDB work for me
Quote:
CDDB doesn't work worth beans for me, but the procedure you list above sometimes makes it work. So, it can't be a firewall problem. I get the same error while attempting to open that URL via a web browser, so does that indicate a problem with the FreeDB servers? I'm currently in the process of copying the FreeDB database to my local hard disks, and will attempt using that instead... Chris Shaker cjshaker@hotmail.com |

I have the same problem too 'HTTP/1.0 404 '. I'm using Win2k behind a company firewall, could this be it? RealAudio and Winamp3 CDDB lookups work fine though. An it works fine on my XP PC at home. Any ideas?
Sorry for the double post btw. I've tried the 'Shift/Delete Alt G' thing and it works fine if I do it that way. Strange. This is exactly the same for me: 'That is strange. Every time I use my dial-up-modem, the connection works great, but if I switch to my normal LAN connection, it shows 'HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found'. For some time the SHIFT-DEL + ALT-G combination worked, but not anymore'. At home I have XP SP1 and a dial up = no probs At work I have win2k sp3 LAN/lease line = no database Last edited by mikeyb on 04-03-2003 at 16:52 |

freedb: status HTTP/1.0 302 not allowed
Can anyone help, please
I installed EAC V0.9 beta and get the above message when trying to connect to the CDDB server. I have no firewall or proxy server in place and the operating system is Windows XP home edition. What can I do? |

I've tried all of the above solutions, Shift Delete (worked once or twice) changed to different servers, same problem eveyr time, 404 error, this is at work on a lease line running win2k sp3. At home, dial up modem, XP+SP1, no cddb settings changed at all, all as it installs and it works fine, every single time, not one failure in about 100 submission, at work (win2k) I've got 2 submission to work out 10!!! RealPlayer and Winamp lookup works fine on the same PC.

Under W2K SP3 w/ ZA (freebie version), I too had problems connection to FreeDB (but only when using EAC - other like products worked fine). Nothing I have tried seemed to work, however, just minutes ago I have upgraded to the latest version 3.7.143 and upon the first attempt to use EAC with this latest ZA version, VOILA, all worked fine without any additional tweaks.

CDDB Problems? Look beyond the firewall!- also: Note to Andre on DVD drives-
Quote:
Just in case this hasn't been mentioned, I have found that certain Antivirus programs will also stop the CDDB from working. Basically, the AV sees the CDDB changes as being an attack on the computer, since it is trying to rename the song titles on the list. I found this out after several hours on the phone with a microsoft tech going through configuration settings and files, until he finally had me start uninstalling programs. We too suspected the firewall, but found the problem still existed even after disableing and even uninstalling it. I use the Systemsuite software, and when I uninstalled the whole suite, the problem disappeared. I then started installing the different parts again but one at a time until the block came back. Turns out it was the antivirus and not the firewall at all. Solution: Installed SystemSuite, but left off the antivirus, and installed AVG Antivirus from Grisoft.com. (free, by the way) NOTE To ANDRE: I use Windows XP Home and Sony drives with my EAC, both being DVD drives. They are the DRU500AX burner and the DDU1621 player. Both work flawlessly with the EAC , the NEROASPI.dll, and Adapter1.cfg installed (courtesy of ChrisMyden.com, who incidentally PRAISES your program on his site with a full page article on setup and use). Also, it'd be nice if you actually had a personal email addy someplace just for a casual hello and praise! Keep up the great work, and thanks for an excellent program! Hope this info is of some help to EAC users. If you need more info on my personal hardware setup, or the particular configuration I am using, please feel free to email me! I also can't get this to work at all. I have checked the freedb site as well and tried several urls from there, none of them work. I am using winXP and a hardware firewall with no outgoing traffic being blocked. still doesn't work. also tried the shift+delete blah blah and it doesn't work for me either. I can't seem to find a CDDB address.
hopefully someone will come up with a solution
