    FreeDB cant connect

I have just installed EAC on windows2000. It seems to be running properly but everytime I try to connect to FreeDB it try to connect to the CDDB server but it never manages to connect.

The message I get back is "error - Can't connect host"

I have set my email account in the Freedb/database options and registered on FreeDB with that email address.

How can I get it to connect to FreeDB to get my song titles etc

    Thanks for any help

    Mark

If you use a firewall, please try to deactivate it...

I have the same problem. When I trace it, I find that the latest EAC try to connect a non-exist site. It always try to connect http://virutal/~cddb/cddb.cgi .That cause freedb doesn't function.

Thanks - the firewall was the problem even though it was not coming up and saying anything - doh I should have checked this myself.

    I use zonealarm pro

Is there any setting to allow the response to come back??

No solution yet for the firewall problem (My firewall has not these problems, and Zonealarm normal also not), but it happens also for other programs...

Well if Andre says there's no solution, I'm glad I didn't waste further time trying
to solve this on my own before coming here.

    W2K, ZA3pro

Alert Log shows that ZA3pro blocked Outgoing to freedb.org [64.71.163.204:80]

    WOW I JUST FIXED IT!

Go to ZA3pro Alert Log to see where Outgoing To freedb.org was blocked

Click on one of those lines to faintly highlight it and cause line's detail info to appear
    at bottom of screen

Note "Add to Zone" button to right of detail. Click it.

Your only 2 choices are Trusted or Blocked. So I tried Trusted (and called it "FreeDB Lookup").

Voila. FreeDB lookup is now working.

(What was added shows up as "FreeDB Lookup" under Firewall, Zones and can easily be removed once the lookup is completed.)

PS: Hey Andre: How come the German EAC forum shows up much so more nicely
on my Netscape 4.79 screen (this forum's all teeny tiny typeface)? Can you please
make this forum as legible as the Deutsche one?

EAC and Freedb look up works fine on my Windows 2000/Zone Alarm Pro setup. Using Zone Alarm Pro 3...
Make sure you've given permission for EAC to access the internet.

Weird - for me it doesn't work, even I configured a new trusted zone in Zonealarm (v. 3.1.291) for FreeDB, and I gave full server and client rights to EAC.

When I quit ZA it works without any problems.

I'm using Win2k SP3, LAN connect (through hardware FW/Gateway) - maybe it's because ZA only allows connects from my internal IP (172.xxx) to the outside, but when ZA blocks EAC it says the blocked source was my external IP (134.xxx).

Whatever, I know what I have to do to make it work (quit ZA) - that's the most important thing

I'm having this exact same problem, however, I don't have any firewall up. :-/

I have the same problem, but I have no firewall either..I am however using EAC through another computer acting as the dialup, using windows ICS...this usually isn't a problem unless a machine behind it is trying to act as a server, ICQ does pretty good routing usually..

Anyone else having this problem behind an ICS dialup?

Perhaps you could try to use a proxy in EAC, so perhaps set up a proxy in your other computer that EAC can use for connecting freedb. By the way, can EAC access freedb on the computer that directly connects the internet?

Even though you check EAC as trusted in the program access menu it still won't connect. Veiw the log in Alerts, Entry Detail will read "Blocked"

    Destination DNS: freedb.org

Click, "ADD TO ZONE" and choose Trusted, Now it will work.

If you click SHIFT-DELETE, (PRESS OK) then ALT-G (PRESS OK) it will work everytime.

Hope this helps you track down the problem.

Sorry, there seems to be no reason, why renaming the tracks will make this work... And it doesn't happen here, so I can't debug it...

    Unhappy

I cant connect to freedb right now. it worked perfectly a couple of days ago and now it just dont. The error message i get is "HTTP/1.0 503 Service Unavailable".
I am using Norton Internet Security but of course i´ve tried to deactivate it and i still doesn´t work.
I have also checked out the freedb forum and there doesn´t seem to be any help for me there, but there ewre at least some people with similar problems.
