OS win2k pro - all patches, etc.
via chipset athlon LG cdrw drive onboard audio via 97 512mb ram 1ghz processor Direct CD5.0 I have installed the win32aspi.dll I have set the appropriate switches within EAC I have made sure my rights are correct Irregardless, it doesn't show the tracks in EAC, unless I use Administrator rights. Is there anywhere else, or any other setting which must be set for an application to have rights? puzzled and confused

Hi there
Once more a problem. Since the SCSI fields are in grey and also I´m using an IDE controler is there any way to put this AEC soft running and detecting the audio CD in the tray? (yes, it recognizes already the CD type but after the wizard stops since it does not see any audio CD in the CD tray) regards |

Win2k Multi-user: CD drives not available for restricted users.
LunaTick, check out this EAC site FAQ info from <a href="http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac11.html">http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/eac11.html</a>. Worked for me. Beautiful program, thanks thanks thanks to Andre Wiethoff! Benoit <hr> A user send this suggestion, feel free to try it out : In administrator mode, Start, Run, MMC Console Menu, Add/Remove Snap-in Add. Group Policy (Group Policy will be shown as "Local Computer Policy". Go figure :P - actually, if your computer receives its policies from a network server, it won't show and you'll have to set it directly on the server, ask your admin then. ) Ok On the tree, Console Root, Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options Find "Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only". It should be disabled by default. Enable it. No need to reboot, when quitting MMC, no need to save. What this does is allow any local software to lock the drive for exclusive use. What this removes is the ability to use the CD-Rom as a Terminal Services client. With this, EAC works seamlessly. It also makes it possible to use a CD-Writer as restricted user with whatever software you choose. |

Hi there
A small question to everybody: since I´ve this same problem with my PC (WIN XP + 2 x CD with IDE controlers NOT SCSI) is it possible to solve the problem with the procedure you guys did (ie: download and instal ASPI v 4.71 including the drivers in the EAC directory??) Regards JA |

I have had the same problem on several machines. If you simply delete the aspi-files, EAC should recognize your CDROM-drive(s).
It works for me anyway Make a file called delaspi.bat in notepad and paste the following lines in to it: del c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS del c:\WINDOWS\system\WOWPOST.EXE del c:\WINDOWS\system\WINASPI.DLL del c:\WINDOWS\system32\WNASPI32.DLL This applies to a standard XP installation, so you may have to correct the directories ![]() P.S.: The batch file are attached (delaspi.zip)

Hello,
I'm using WinXP (PRO) and have installed Adaptec ASPI 4.71. EAC works fine with native, and it also lets me choose "Installed external ASPI" option. But when I try to rip tracks, the log says: "Other options : .... Native Win32 interface for Win NT & 2000" No matter if I choose "Native" or "Installed". I tried to uninstall / reinstall EAC and ASPI several times, put .dll in EAC dir. - but it's still the same. I'm just curious if anyone else had that problem? Personally I cannot understand what's wrong with Native ASPI, but many people suggest using Adaptec instead. |

Aspi4all is a necessary ASPI layer update to get the CD-ripper
software Exact Audio Copy to work with Windows XP. Unzip Aspi4all.zip to a folder anywhere, for example to a temp folder on your desktop. Run the aspichk.exe to check if your Aspi is working properly. If it tells you that it is not working, then run the Aspi4all.exe. When done, confirm ok if prompted. The machine will now reboot. After reboot, run the aspichk.exe again, to see if your Aspi now is working properly. Hopefully it does! Now you should be able to start using the Exact Audio Copy to rip some songs again! :-) DigitalJohn Last edited by DigitalJohn on 26-05-2003 at 00:01 Last edited by DigitalJohn on 17-06-2003 at 15:34 |

Ive got exactly the same problem.
When I installed EAC, and ran the Configuration wizard it found the CD I put in, and I ripped it perfectly. But now it isn't finding any CD's I put in. I'll see if any of the tips here help. |

Windows aspi worked for me !?!
Hi everyone,
There is a lot about "the ASPI problem" on these boards! My experience is somewhat opposite those I've read here. I don't necessarily recommend that anyone else do as I did - this is only to report what happened, to complement the info here. The system on which i use EAC: Win 2000 Pro SP2; TDK VeloCD/rebadged Plextor 1210T (IDE); Asus mobo/Ali chipset; Athlon 1GHz; 512MB SDRAM; EAC v.09. beta 4, 22 May 2002. When I first started using EAC i did all the setup procedures according to the tutorials at http://www.ping.be/satcp/tutorials.htm . I could not get any results with the Adaptec layer as recommended there. (at that time i did not know about the external aspi layer tricks given in these fora). However, everything worked fine as soon as i chose "Native win32 interface for Windows 2000" and it was OK for months. Today I burned an audio CDR with EAC and it was fine, then a data CDR with Nero 5.0, then went back to EAC to do another audio disc and it appeared to have *lost all my settings*, and did not recognize any disk in the drive. After trying various things - reboot, play audio CD, etc. to convince myself the drive was OK - I read here, then went to look at the ASPI setting. It was now set for external aspi layer. (I had not touced this; maybe Nero did it ???). So I set it back to native windows, and everything was back to normal! WHat a relief. Again, this is nearly opposite to others' experiences but I hope it may help someone. Steve |
