This one worked for me flawlessly!
I couldn't check ASPI interface in EAC because it was greyed out, even though I had installed the ASPI 4.71 layer from Adaptec. After applying this fix, and rebooting, now I can use ASPI with EAC! And it works great! Thanks to Yakumo for this one: http://www.ntcompatible.com/download.php?id=12 Regards. |

Hi,
There's also another method. The following message has been written by Wimpy, the webmaster of http://flexion.org/ and author of the ForceASPI software: -------------- cut here ------------------ Unfortunately Adaptec's legal department contacted me about distributing ForceASPI, and I am forbidden from doing so. I have found an alternate solution to my ASPI problems now anyway. Ahead (http://www.ahead.de) make their ASPI layer freely available. Simply download the .dll from their website and copy it in the the same directory as the program which requires ASPI. Works great, tested with CD-R programs, CD-Rippers, DVD-Rippers, etc.... No problems. I won't be doing another version of ForceASPI but I will document the Ahead ASPI work around when I re-launch my site in a couple of weeks :-) -------------- cut here ----------------- Greets. Good bye. |

And as reminder :
In EAC Options / Interface you need to set the interface that should be used, ASAPI for VOBs ASAPI, and external ASPI for ASPI from Adaptec or Neros ASPI. Restart EAC to make this option take effect. cu, Andre |

If Easy CD Creator (which version, anyway ?) freezes during burning ... this is not an ASPI problem since burning suites like Nero, WinOnCD or Easy CD Creator install their own ASPI-layers ... this sounds like a major system fault in your operating system ... if I were you and if I could not locate the problem, I would try to do a somewhat "clean" install of XP and then try to burn again ...

More on ASPI
I've tried and tried to resolve this matter, but keep coming back to square one.
I've downloaded and installed EAC. I've downloaded and installed ASPI v 4.71 AND the "fix" located at the top of this message. My EAC file is full of ASPI files, but yet when I try to use EAC the program does not recognize a disc in the drive. I've hacked and hacked and still cannot come up with anything. I went to the "options" folder and tried to change the "use of SCSI interface", but the two are greyed out and the only option checked is for Win NT/2000. I am a Win XP user. So, PLEASE, can someone tell me what I need to do. I'm completely exasperated. I'm not very computer savvy, but I'm not a dummy either. I just need a plain english explanation about what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it. Thanks so much, Lisa |

Re: More on ASPI
I have this problem too. However before I reformatted EAC worked fine. So I don't really understand what the problem is now. I consider myself I power user and have still not been able to figure it out. Older version do not work either. For the time being I have switched to Cdex which works like a charm. Only thing I miss is knowing 100% that there were no errors.

1. Delete the complete EAC Folder
2. Delete EAC Registry Settings 3. UnInstall current ASPI Layer 4. Check in explorer if your CD drives are be assigned drive letters by Windows ... which is needed for the "native NT/2000 Interface" 5. ReInstall ASPI (I use 4.60) or VOB ASAPI after ReBoot 6. ReInstall EAC ... now configuration should work probably you have messed up your system with more than one burning application ... e.g. Nero and Easy CD Creator are not harmonizing that well ... if that's the case try uninstalling the burning applications as well Greetz JeanLuc

R-Clk My Computer; L-Clk Manage; Under Storage, L-Clk on Removeable Storage; L-Clk on "Your CD-R/W"; Then R-Clk to bring up the menu; L-Clk on Properties. Choose the Security Tab. You should see two windows in one, the top section is Groups & Users, the bottom section is permissions. As you select each name in the top section, check all three "allow" boxes for each, do this for all of the group/users names. L-Clk OK; X Out; then reboot. That should do it. RJ <aka Greenbaum> |

The VOB ASAPI-Drivers work for me too. Had a single freeze at the very first program startup after installation, rebooted the system - after i configured the program it reads and reads and reads!
Thanx for your help! |

I just recently got a new computer at work and it's a Win200 OS. I also have to have admin rights to install new software (but I can sort of get around that since I backed up a bunch of software before the migration and I can just drag and drop stuff from the back-up cdr to the program files folder).
Anyway, I tried all the tricks mentioned above as well as the steps mentioned in the FAQ and nothing works. The best I get is that when I click on the EAC icon nothing happens at all. So I can't even get into the options menu to change the interface. I tried the VOB ASAPI but I got an error message when trying to install it. I downloaded the latest EAC and it installs fine but as I said above it won't open. Is there a way to set the options without opening up EAC? Does anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks, Iver |

When using a third-party CD recording program, you should disable XP's CD recording program: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and scroll down to "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service". Right-click on this service, select Properties and then select "Disable" under "Startup Type". This technique should resolve any conflicts between the two programs. |
