Compress local .wav files with CD info included
Hi,
if I rip the CD tracks to .wav files, is there anyway afterwards to convert those .wav files to .mp3 of .ogg or other formats, while still having the tag info (artist, title, etc.) passed from the CD? Is there any way for EAC not to redo the extraction when the local .wav file is already there?
Thanks,
Ivan

Yes, maybe, but it's not entirely straightforward.
WAV files do not contain tags. So the way to get around this is:
- when you create the WAV files, put all the relevant information in the file name (e.g. "Pink Floyd - Animals - 1977 - 02 - Dogs.WAV");
- when you convert from WAV to MP3 or whatever, retain the naming convention (e.g. "Pink Floyd - Animals - 1977 - 02 - Dogs.MP3");
- use a utility like Tag&Rename to put the tags on and rename the files to something more convenient.
If you already have some WAV files that do not follow this procedure then I don't think there's any way to automatically create the tag info.
