I am a new member to the EAC community, and would like to avoid all the trial & error most of the members have probably gone through. Is there any tutorial available on how to use the EAC software?
My questions might sound absurd to most of this forum members, but I am not sure 100% what I am doing in each Action list of EAC and could not find information on any Help... So, thanks for your patience and I do appreciate your assistance. I would like to know for example, what should I use to rip my CD's and what is the meaning and when should I use each of the following commands: - Copy Selected Tracks - Test and copy selected tracks - Copy Range - Test selected tracks - Copy Image and create CUE sheet (what is the CUE sheet for ?) - Test & Copy image & create CUES sheet - Catalog Selected Tracks (what is the meaning of catalog?) - Copy Selected Tracks Index based - Detect Gaps (what for?) - Test Gaps on silence (no clue what this would do...) - Create a CUE sheet - Leave out Gaps - Append Gaps to previous Track (default...) - Append Gaps to next Track Thanks Again! |

- Copy Selected Tracks
Use this to copy the selected tracks - Test and copy selected tracks EAC will make 2 copies of the selected tracks. One as a test pass and a second copy pass that will be saved to your hard drive. EAC will compare the two and display a hash value for each track in the test or copy column of the main window. This hash indicates whether the two independent passes are the same or if they are different. The two independent passes having the same hash value indicates that the copy is an "Exact" duplicate of the disc content to a very high mathematical probability. Non-matching hash indicates that at least one, and probably both, do not duplicate of the disc content perfectly. - Copy Range Copies a user specified range of the audio. - Test selected tracks Performs a "test" pass on the selected tracks - Copy Image and create CUE sheet (what is the CUE sheet for ?) An image copy will save all the cd tracks in one single big file. The cue sheet is used to re-create the track layout when burning a cd-r or can be used to split the one big audio file into separate tracks in accordance with the track layout. - Test & Copy image & create CUES sheet See - Copy Image and create CUE sheet & - Test and copy selected tracks - Catalog Selected Tracks (what is the meaning of catalog?) This creates a set of sample audio files for the selected tracks using the options specified on the Catalog tab, which is part of the EAC Options dialog window - Copy Selected Tracks Index based Creates separate audio files, split based on the track layout and any secondary indices (gaps). - Detect Gaps (what for?) Detects secondary indices for use in other functions. - Test Gaps on silence (no clue what this would do...) Determines whether the audio between the primary track layout position and any secondary indices is non-silent. - Create a CUE sheet This command instructs EAC to make one of 4 types of cue sheets. - Leave out Gaps Copies the tracks and removes audio data between the primary track layout position and any secondary indices (if they exist) - Append Gaps to previous Track (default...) Copies the tracks with the audio data between the primary track layout position and any secondary indices (if they exist) placed at the end of the previous track This method is used most often and the default method for all ripping programs. - Append Gaps to next Track Copies the tracks with the audio data between the primary track layout position and any secondary indices (if they exist) placed at the front of the next track One of many guides http://xs.vc/eac/index.html |

Teller,
Thank you very much for your prompt assistance. I will analyze all your information and read the useful link you posted. Eventually, if you do not mind, I'll come back with some doubts. In the mean time, if there are any other guides available that you could recommend and post here, it might save you and others very valuable time! |

Hi gecus.
I actually wrote an EAC guide not too long ago, I even submitted here for review. I've made several changes to it over time in an attempt to make it as easy as possible while still being correct and complete. If you're interested, here's the link: How To Rip 1:1 Copies of Audio CDs Using Exact Audio Copy |

Personally, I think the best EAC guide(s) is at http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index....ory:EAC_Guides
This guide is based on factual information, whereas other "elite" guides I've seen contain user-safe (ie. lowest common denominator) settings that is based on unfounded paranoia. You probably won't go wrong using those "elite" guides, but they're not necessarily the best settings for you. Those guides tell you how THEY want you to rip CDs. HydrogenAudio's guide merely provides information. |
