I was just wondering if anyone knew this. The drive detect features says that it does, but I'm not sure if it's working properly (this is a problem with a lot of drives I believe). Can anyone please tell me whether I should untick that my Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations (under Extraction Method tab).
I just want a perfect copy of a cd. I'd rather wait a bit longer for the image + cue sheet to be created that possibly end up with a crappy copy. Thanks a load in advance. |

In my haste to post I was perhaps a little bit vague
I have one of the new CD-RW PlexWriter 24/10/40A (PX-W2410TA) with firmware 1.03.
I currently have selected: Secure mode with the following drive features (recommended) and the following are ticked: Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature Drive caches audio data Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations Should I untick the bottom one (Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations) and leave the other two ticked? Is this the safest way of making a copy? If C2 wasn't working properly, would the resulting glitch be really obvious (like the track skipping) or just a minor pop or click that I may not notice? Thanks again Jingo |

According I understand, for perfect copies, C2 disabled is slower
but more safe. You can do the following test: Take a cd you do not care (or make a copy with C2 disabled) and scratch it on purpose. (do 6 or 8 scratches like strings, not in radial direction) Test a song reading it twice with C2 enabled and disabled. Do not forget to save the log after reading the track. If the C2 error retrieval works you should get the same results. (this mean the same CRC checksum in the log or two equal *.wavs) If not, do "compare wavs" and note where are the differences: open the two files with the "audio editor", zoom up to 1/1000 sec in the zone where the difference are and you will see them. (you will "see" the abnormalities in the curve of the incorrect wav) |

The 24x does C2 correctly yes and no...
If you activate C2, you will get good sounding copies in any way... But perhaps not bit-identical to the original... So decision is on your side... cu, Andre |

Thanks for the replies.
Can I just double-check something then? As I asked earlier, if I want to be sure that my copies are perfect: Should I untick the bottom one (Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations) and leave the other two ticked? Also Andre, how would the copies not be bit-identical to the originals? Does this mean that all the copies I've done in the past (with Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations ticked) ARE NOT perfect copies or MIGHT NOT be perfect copies? Thanks again Jingo |

Could someone please just confirm for me that the way to turn off the C2 feature is simply to untick:
Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error informations (Extraction Method tab) ? Do I need to do anything else beside this i.e. tick or untick any other options (regarding C2, if there are any), or is that it? Thank you Jingo |

By not selecting C2 feature, no C2 will be used...
And yes, it is possible that the results with C2 are not bit-perfect, but I really assume that no one will really hear a difference... cu, Andre |
